The 7 Key Bathroom Trends for 2018/2019. You’ll be surprised to know that some of them do NOT require a Tradesperson OR a large budget!

Believe us when we say that Ziporah Lifestyle (Carla and Roanne) has spent ALOT of time in bathrooms over the years and we are constantly in touch with- and exploring- the latest trends, ideas and influences in the bathing space. It’s a passion for us-we absolutely adore it. Plus we can’t wait to show you our new towel range later in 2018 which will be photographed in a very special bathroom!

We have collated months and months of bathroom-trend research to bring you our top 7 trends for Bathrooms in 2018/2019. We hope that you enjoy reading our finds and that they will inspire you to innovate your bathing spaces!

TREND 1: Accessorising your space. Style your bathroom as you would your lounge and living areas. Keep brighter colours for Spring and Summer and exchange for deeper, richer colors in Autumn and Winter. Start to explore the bathroom as an extension of your living spaces and add your own personal touches and features. Bathrooms are certainly no longer the bare “wet” spaces that they were in the past!  Utilise practical decorative items to enhance every day functionality: try a beautiful tray to display your most-used perfumes, jewels, lotions or soaps.

Warm up the floor with a stylish and easy-care rug :

Definitely consider a gorgeous piece of unique artwork that has been especially framed for a steamy or humid environment. The right piece will set the tone immediately and add a luxe-feel to the bathroom.

Let’s not forget that bathroom towels (our PASSION!) can easily style-up and transform a bathroom in a cost-friendly and easy way. Think of towels as you would the covers on your cushions or the throw-rugs on your sofa- change colours and textures according to the Season.

TREND 2: Making your bathroom an oasis is not a new concept by any stretch, but we’ve noticed that indoor plants have made a return to the bathroom in a big way. They are everywhere! If you have the space, pick a gorgeous free-standing floor planter or basket to display your chosen pop of gorgeous green foliage.

For a smaller bathroom space, consider a petite-sized plant nestling in a stand-out vessel:

Plants have an instant impact and can really give your bathroom a resort-like feel in an instant. Bang-for-buck; they’re a winner because you can pick up a lush indoor plant for under $50 and really make your bathroom look and feel like a personal sanctuary in a flash.

TREND 3: Think “thinner and smaller”. We are seeing smaller feature tiles, thinner shelving and cabinetry outlines and less “chunky” stone bench tops.

TREND 4: Consider more tactile and textured tiles on the walls and surrounding areas. “3-D” tiles will add depth to a wall and will often bounce the light around the room better than a flat surfaced tile would. Further, they will provide contrasts in light and shadow. Keep the colours classic and neutral-think whites, greys, blacks and metallics. We love the on-trend ranges of 3D tiles from in Australia from National Tiles and Beaumont Tiles:

and the tiles from Porcelanosa in the USA are really amazing:

TREND 5: Keep tapware straight, square ( minimal curves!) matte and metallic. The previous bathroom look of matte black tapware has made way for the metallics to once again showcase in the bathroom. Elegant and sophisticated tapware designs now feature in matte gold, champagne and tiger bronze finishes and the new shapes will provide a lavish but clutter-free and timelessly elegant look.

TREND 6: Solid timber and timber veneer finishes are a big design factor moving forward. Explore these options for cabinetry and shelving as they will add an organic warmth to the bathroom that cannot be ignored. Look for timber finishes that are made and sealed especially for the wet and humid conditions found in the bathroom.

Stone finishes and benchtops feature a more honed or matte look:

Pay close attention to terrazzo (natural or reconstituted composite) surfaces as they are becoming a huge trend. Try Caesarstone and Fibonacci Stone for new Terrazzo products that are absolutely perfect for the bathroom.

TREND 7: Showcase a statement mirror! Bathrooms often tend to have a lot of straight lines, and a different shaped mirror can be a lovely counterbalance to that. Importantly, it's a great way to give your bathroom a fresh look without spending a large portion of your budget. We have seen a lot of round mirrors in the last 2 years but we expect to see even more curves or geometric mirror shapes in 2019. There’s a mirror to suit any budget from the budget-friendly options at Kmart:

and (we love!) West Elm:

To the luxe mirrors from our all-time "Style Crush" Designer  KELLY WEARSTLER

Above it all: it's YOUR bathing space, it's YOUR sanctuary and it's one of the most-used rooms in the home. Make your bathroom all about your lifestyle, your aesthetic and your every day practical requirements! Above all, we hope that you will put your own unique spin and finesse into your bathroom.  Trends are trends but style is forever. xZL
